Cheryl and Ron are getting married in the Butterfly Gardens at the Biltmore Estate on June 26th, with a reception following at the Conservatory. Cheryl and Ron dated for four years before they got engaged on April 18, 2008. They are ready to get married and excited about sharing this special moment with their closest family and friends! Continue reading to find out more about this couple…
How did you meet each other?
Ron accidentally sent a misdirected email to the wrong Cheryl – me! Instead of letting it go, I responded & asked him if he was the Ron Raugh that was friends with my buddy Jan and her husband (his former co-worker) Shane. He was, and we started bantering via email about how there was snow on the ground where we were – Philly & Raleigh & how we’d both rather be visiting them in Tampa. Before you know it we were trading phone numbers & pictures via email, then calling each other, and we finally descended upon our mutual friends in Florida (who DIDN’T) set us up. And the rest, as they say, is history!
When did you get engaged, and how did he ask?
Our Golden Retriever Cody takes me to the local VA Hospital every Friday night to do therapy dog visits. On April 18, 2008 we came back from our visit & Ron planned a quiet evening at home building a fire in the chiminea on the back patio. It was just the two of us, the dog, a bottle of wine & a crackling fire. He came into the house for something (he’d stashed the ring in a kitchen cabinet by this point). He went into an eloquent spiel about how he probably should have gotten around to this sooner and I remember thinking – are you going to get to the part where you ask me to marry you? He did and I said yes!!!!
What do you two do for a living?
Cheryl is a project manager for Nortel Networks. Her job is home based which is what allowed her the flexibility to move from Raleigh to PA to be with Ron. Ron previous position was Vice-President of Advanced Services for the Central PA region of Comcast. After spending a few years learning the front line business, Ron elected to move into a more technology based role and is now testing wireless based architectures in order to develop new wireless products for Comcast.
What are some of the activities that you like to do together as a couple?
Walking our dog together in the evenings to unwind from work.
Working in the yard on the flowerbeds or the garden.
Ron’s favorite pastime is scuba. Cheryl has become scuba certifies as well. After all, a hobby that forces you to go to sunny, warm, tropical locations can’t be all bad!
Why did you choose Asheville as your wedding location?
Since Cheryl is from NC we searched potential wedding locations literally from one end of the state to the other – from the Biltmore in the mountains, to several bed & breakfasts around Raleigh, to a few locations at the beach. Ron had never been to the Biltmore Estate before, however once he saw it everything else paled by comparison.
When you think about your wedding, what are you most excited about?
That’s an easy one for Ron to answer – the honeymoon! And for Cheryl it’s changing her last name so she doesn’t go through life with her ex-husband’s last name anymore! Ha! Seriously, we are excited to have all of our family and friends come together for what we hope will be a fun-filled celebration and are excited that the folks that are closest to us can help us share in this joyous experience.
Tell us the things you love about each other…
Cheryl: What I love about Ron is…his positive attitude and how he instills confidence in others to push you beyond what you truly think that you are capable of yourself. Who knew that I would ever become scuba certified? Plus he is the most meticulous and organized male that I’ve ever met. He makes lists for everyone and everything and is always, always, always knocking items off of the to-do list. But what I truly love about him is how happy me makes me and how our relationship is truly a collaborative effort.
Ron: What I love about Cheryl is…she is very supportive and family oriented which was very important considering I have children from a first marriage. She has put the effort into finding a relationship with each of them. I had built a
house prior to meeting her and she has helped to turn it into a home. For once in a very long time I am both happy and content.
