Alison and Jeff

Alison and Jeff were married in Asheville at the romantic Homewood.  They were married on June 20th in an outdoor ceremony down in a glen covered in a canopy of trees.  It was a beautiful day.  I loved every aspect of their wedding, and I can’t wait to share their photos with you.  For now, I want you to get to know this now husband and wife!  🙂
How did you meet each other?
We met at work on a Sunday in December 2005.  It was Jeff’s first day working at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).  A group of us were called in to prepare a brief for Congress.  After a couple of months of working on the same floor and burning the midnight oil, we finally fell subject to a colleague’s ploy to get us together.

How long did you date before you got engaged?
About two and a half years.
When did you get engaged, and how did he ask?
Jeff is a UNC alum and Alison quickly adopted Tar Heel fever.  We arrived in Chapel Hill late one evening in September 2008 and went straight to Jeff’s swimming alumni reception.  The next morning, we ate a yummy brunch, toured campus, and went to our first Tar Heel football game together, where unfortunately the Heels lost.  Afterward, as we headed to dinner, Jeff nonchalantly steered us through the arboretum where he popped the question!  It was a beautiful, late afternoon setting and we sat on a park bench for a while smiling ear to ear.
What do you two do for a living?
Recently, Jeff spent over three years at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and at the end of January 2009 he started a new job at Alston + Bird LLP.  Alison has spent over four and a half years at TSA in various roles — now serving in the Office of Global Strategies.  Prior to this, she worked at CNN and the National Security Council.
What are some of the activities that you like to do together as a couple?
We enjoy swimming and hiking together and visiting our families in NC.  We love to travel – a highlight being our trip to Africa in 2007 when we hiked Kilimanjaro and went on a safari.  We also like to cheer on the Tar Heels football and basketball teams and play with our puppy dog, Max.
Why did you choose Asheville as your wedding location?
We both spent time growing up in parts of North Carolina and wish to move there one day in the future.  Alison’s parents live in Hendersonville, so we had a nice place to stay while we were planning the wedding in Asheville.  Plus, Asheville was a great place for a destination wedding – with convenient airport for our guests and known as a place many people always want to visit.
When you think about your wedding, what are you most excited about?
Having all of our friends and families in one place!
What do you love about each other?
Jeff:  What I love about Alison is…her amazing kindness, ability to make me laugh and unconditional love.
Alison:  What I love about Jeff is…his big heart, tender kindness, intellectual curiosity, and sense of humor.
Anything else you would want people to know?
Tara is amazing!  Very calming, attentive to details, and straightforward.
