Rachel and Jon

6/18/2012

This past Saturday, Rachel and Jon finally became husband and wife!  The wedding took place at the Deerpark on The Biltmore Estate, and it was absolutely beautiful!  I asked them a few questions before the wedding, and I want you to be able to get to know a little bit more about this absolutely wonderful couple!
How did you meet each other?
Online – Jdate, like match.com for the Jewish population

How long have you two been together?

It will be 5 years in August
When did you get engaged, and how did he ask?
Every January since our first winter together, we have taken a ski vacation over my birthday weekend with a group of our closest friends.  2011’s trip to Steamboat Springs, CO turned out to be more memorable as an engagement was in the works and I was none the wiser!  We decided to end the trip with a snowmobile tour the morning of my birthday.  Jon had tucked the ring in his pocket ready to propose on the tour, but decided to hold off until we were in a warmer setting. (The air temp was a toasty 20 degrees.) Once back at the condo, our friends had planned to have a small cake and sing Happy Birthday. Jon thought it was the right time to give me my “birthday present.” I turned around and got a glimpse of Jon holding a small black jewelry pouch and within the next few seconds, the snow was falling for the first time that weekend and Jon was on his knee dropping the ring into my hand.  He said, “Let’s see how this fits!” and asked with a huge grin and open arms, “Rachel, will you marry me?”  (It was something like that…we have a hard time remembering his exact words.)  After a few seconds of disbelief and realizing it wasn’t a joke, I responded “Yes I Will!”
What do you two do for a living?
Jon is in the construction industry and Rachel teaches first grade
What are some of the activities that you like to do together as a couple?
Two years ago we started our family with a corgi puppy named Riley. We take her hiking or running almost every afternoon. We also love to travel and Jon has convinced me that driving across the country is just as much fun as flying! Cooking together is also something that we are lucky enough to do every night.

Why did you choose the Biltmore Estate as your wedding location?

We knew we wanted an outdoor setting to show off our surroundings that we have in our own back yard! Deerpark had a feeling of warmth allowing guests to be surrounded by natural beauty with all the foliage. Also, the intimacy of the courtyard ceremony spoke to us, it was as if we would be wrapped up in natural beauty as we commit our lives to each other.

When you think about your wedding, what are you most excited about?

We are most excited about the celebration of love with all of our friends and family.
What do you love about one another?
Rachel: What I love about Jon is his ability to make me laugh with a quick wit. He shares an amazing sense of optimism in any situation. He values his family and friendships undoubtedly, and is always honest, even if it’s something you may not want to hear. He’s also not too bad on the eyes either! I love him and can’t wait to be his wife!
Jon: What I love about Rachel is her outgoing personality and kindness. She is a caring and genuine person who enjoys life and wouldn’t hesitate to help others. Her passion for children and desire to help them build lifelong skills is just as attractive as her eyes. With a big heart, loud voice and strong work ethic, she is the best match for me. It also helps that she is a pretty good cook as well. I guess great things really do come in small packages!

  1. Jon and Rachel says:

Thank you for everything this weekend. We truly had the time of our lives and couldn’t have done it without your incredible talent as our wedding planner. We are forever grateful!!!
    Sincerely,
    Rachel and Jon Haney

  2. Terry Haney says:

Tara, you are truly amazing! It was so good to see you again and watch you make all of our dreams come true. Have fun with your growing family. We love you! Terry and Steve
