Shawyntee and Idris

Shawyntee and Idris have been together for almost two years now, and they are beyond excited to finally get married on the gorgeous grounds of the Biltmore Estate. Their ceremony will take place in the Walled Gardens, followed by a reception at the Deerpark Restaurant. Should be fabulous! Read more about this special couple below…
How did you meet each other?
In July of 2011 my brother was at my house and was on the phone with one of Shawyntee’s high school friends. He mentioned that he was with me just hanging out.  Shawyntee’s high school friend told my brother that she had a friend (Shawyntee) who lives in the “Raleigh-Durham” area and she asked where I lived and if I was single.  My brother told her yes I was single and that I also lived in the area.   Shawyntee’s high school friend gave my brother Shawyntee’s number to give to me.  I called and left a really long voice mail and she called me back the next day. We have been together ever since.

When did you get engaged, and how did he ask?

It was June 23, 2012 and we were going to Charlotte for Shawyntee’s sorority sister’s wedding. I met my parents and my sister at a very nice restaurant in Charlotte. I arranged for my brother’s fraternity brother to serenade Shawyntee with “our” song – All my Life, the Marcus Canty version. Shortly after we were seated, he started to sing, and I immediately looked at Shawyntee.  She looked so confused.  The whole restaurant stopped and stared at us.  Shawyntee realized what was happening and she started crying, my mom and sister started crying, the staff at the restaurant started crying, and my dad even teared up as well.  I held it together (wink wink). After he sang, I got down on one knee and said “I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you, will you marry me?”  She said, “Yes!
What do you two do for a living?
Idris:  I recently received my Master’s Degree and since we are moving to Dallas, Texas I resigned my previous job working for Orange County Schools and I will be looking for a job in the Recreation field.
Shawyntee:  I am a pediatric cardiologist in Dallas , Texas.
What are some of the activities that you like to do together as a couple?
Shawyntee and I are both foodies. We love to try out new restaurants. We already have our favorite restaurants in Dallas, TX. We (I) also love to go to sporting events together. (Actually I do) We both love good movies and good wine. We also love to travel and explore new locations.

Why did you choose the Biltmore Estate as your wedding location?

On December 3, 2011 Shawyntee and I were in Asheville, NC spending the evening at the Biltmore Estate’s Christmas tour. We both were blown away at the beauty of the Biltmore. Casually, Shawyntee mentioned she love to be married there. I said “me too” not thinking that it could or would actually happen. So when I proposed guess where she said she wanted to get married? We both looked into and found it was feasible so we’re getting married at the Biltmore.
When you think about your wedding, what are you most excited about?
Idris: I’m most excited about seeing Shawyntee walk down the aisle. I don’t know what she will look like but I know she will be beautiful. I’m also excited to see how Tara will make our vision come to life. I know Tara will transform the venues to fit what Shawyntee and I have envisioned.
Shawyntee: I’m most excited about seeing my handsome groom standing at the alter, and saying my vows, as well as hearing his vows he has written for me.
What do you love about each other?
Shawyntee: What I love about Idris is that he has an amazing heart that is both strong and gentle at the same time.  If I had to choose one word to describe him I would say devoted.   He is devoted to God, to family, to doing the right thing , and to loving me with all of his heart. Idris has a simple way of calming my angst and keeping things in perspective. While I’m Type A he is Type “O so cool.”  Together we are a perfect blend. Five months before I met Idris, I prayed for the traits I wanted in a husband.  I can say I have them all in my Honey!
Idris: What I love about Shawyntee is she has one of the best hearts in the world.  The fact that she is so giving and kind makes me love her more.  I love her more than she knows.  I love that she is a God fearing woman.  I love that I can tell Shawyntee anything.  I love the fact that she is very close to her family because I am too. While Shawyntee likes to cuddle and talk about “our love”, I like to be at a sporting event around a lot of people.  There will be a compromise.  I think she will win that compromise.  I feel that I am truly the most blessed man in the world because I get to marry the love of my life.

Anything else you would want people to know?
Idris: I’m not only looking forward to the wedding, but I’m looking forward to our marriage and our life together. I know our life will be fantastic.
Shawyntee: I truly believe that God brought us together at this time in our lives. I am grateful for Idris and looking forward to our lives together.
